Click to expand.Please do make a video because I've found 4 different websites that all have different instructions for updating firmware on the novo 7 elf. Also could you please provide all the drivers to be installed before or during the update and if debugging needs to be on or off. I'm running windows 7 if that makes a difference.
Right now the driver that is installed with a yellow exclimation beside it in Device Manager shows: USB Device(VID_1f3a_PID_efe8), when I plug the USB into the device to do the firmware update, a duplicate USB Device(VID_1f3a_PID_efe8) is discovered but does not have the exclimation mark beside it. This is also the time that the program pops up a small windows box with the yellow exclimation mark and an ok button and the upgrade does not happen. Warning • First thing before you start:: BACKUP-BACKUP-BACKUP - everything will be erased when you flash a ROM. • Second thing before you start: Check that your downloaded files is not broken (open zip, check file size, MD5checksum etc) and is made for your hardware, otherwise it may your tablet. • Third thing before you start: Be careful and think about what you are doing and read and understand all instructions before you start. If you use a custom made firmware/ROM there is no support from any makers/vendors, you must agree all risks by installing non-supported files, it may brick your tablet, and you may lose official support/warranty.
• Fourth thing before you start: Check that your battery is fully loaded. A too low powered battery in the flashing process may brick your tablet. Ainol Stock Recovery Firmware Upgrade Guide This is how you do a firmware upgrade with on the Ainol NOVO8 Advanced: • Download and extract the rom zip archive file to a FAT32 formatted microSD card. The files varies depending on, but the files can be: aml_autoscript, factory_update_param.aml, u-boot-512M-UartB.bin, uImage, uImage_recovery and update.zip and is in the downloaded archive. The files must be in the root of the SD card, not in a sub directory.
Some users report problems with larger SD cards so it's recommended to use a small one, 2GB or less. Then place it in the NOVO 8 while it's off.
• Press and hold both the POWER and VOL+ buttons (the top two) at the same time until the 'safe mode' screen appears (it's the screen with text on it). Then release the buttons. ClockWorkMod 5 (CyanogenMod) Recovery Firmware Upgrade Guide This is the unofficial and community way you do a firmware upgrade to and with on the Ainol NOVO8 Advanced: • Copy the downloaded file update-cmXXX-NOVO8-X.XX-signed.zip (where X is version number) and the right 'recovery cmX' file uImage_recovery (where X is the CM version number) to the root of your sdcard (not in a sub directory) and insert it in the tablet while turned off. Some users report problems with large microSD cards so it's recommended to use a small one, 2GB or less.
Also put smaller extra update zip files on the card, if there are any, like gapps (GoogleApps). • Hold down VOL+ and press POWER (Two top buttons) and hold until CWM text options appears on screen with a black top hat logo in the middle of the screen. • Navigate with VOL+ and VOL- buttons and select with the top POWER button: 'wipe data/factory reset' -->'Yes -- delete all user data' -->Go Back and 'wipe cache partition' (You can also use track ball to navigate). • Navigate back to the main menu and choose: 'install zip form sdcard' -->'choose a zip from sdcard' -->select rom and 'yes'. This can take a minute or so depending on the size of the ROM file. • Repeat previous step for or other extra update ROMs.
• Navigate and choose the reboot option and the tablet will shut down. Remove your upgrade card and put in your ordinary one.
